St Ignatius' most lasting achievement is founding the Society of Jesus (commonly called Jesuits) and becoming its first Superior General. The the Superior General he sent his companions as missionaries around Europe to create schools, colleges, and seminaries. This work continue today and can be considered the lasting legacy of St. Ignatius.
St Ignatius and the Jesuits became major figures in the counter-reformation, where the Catholic Church worked to reform itself from within and countered the theology of Protestantism.
St Ignatius also developed Ignatian Spirituality, a vital part of the lives of Jesuites and many others.
