Massage therapists have the highest attrition rate. That means that they have the highest turnover of new therapist coming into the profession because the ones that have been there a few years experience burnout and quit. There actually are no statistics that show that more massage therapists burn out than any other profession. Other disadvantages: You can't make much as an entry level therapist. The salary is usually $15 an hour. You can't work many hours a week because of the physical demands. Massage employers have been known to take advantage of massage therapists because the massage jobs are more of a recent phenomenon. You work alone in a dark room all day long with soft music playing. (with the client there of course). You can't talk much to people and isolation is always a challenge. If you start your own business you have to be the marketing manager, the business manager, the sales manager, customer service and answer the phones, do the bookkeeping.
