they aren't!

the best and effective form of Birth Control is the depo shot.

you don't have to worry about taking a pill at the same time everyday, all you have to do is go in and get a shot and after 24 hours you are protected from pregnancy. then about 13 weeks later you get another shot.

the shot is effective for 3 months, then you are due for another one.

the best thing about the shot vs. the pill is you have 4 or less periods a year and it is more reliable. it is true that depo is highly effective and easy to use, but it can potentially cause side effects. unfortunately, if u do experience these side effects, you're stuck- u can't just stop taking it as u could the pill- u have to wait three months for the effects to wear off. so investigate the pros and cons carefully before u commit to having this medicine in your body for three months.
The efficacy of the birth control pill is dependent on your age, the following are key issues surrounding its use:

1. Depo provera shots should not be taken by women who may want to get pregnant in the next two years since it can affect ovulation for several months after it has been discontinued.

2. The birth control pill may not be the best method for older women, due to clotting risks.

3. Birth control pill may not work for women who tend to forget pills or who have trouble swallowing pills.

4. The IUD may not be a good choice for women who have religious beliefs preventing this type of birth control.

Please note that there is no "best" method of birth control. It is a personal choice, and the answer may depend upon a number of factors.
