Why does Yuki erase Zeros memories vampire knight?

Yuki erases Zero's memories in "Vampire Knight" to protect his emotional well-being. She does this out of love and care for him, as she believes that by erasing his memories of their romantic relationship, she can help him move on and live a better life.
