It depends.

It could just be out of battery power and you need to charge it, but i doubt it is if you are having difficulties.

If the screen will not turn on, even if you press the home button or the sleep button, there is a possibility that you turned it off. To turn it back on, just hold the sleep button until it turns on.

If the screen is black with an Apple logo, this means that you may need to restore your iPod. To do this, plug your ipod into your computer, and when the Apple logo is there, press and hold the sleep button and the home button until the screen is completely off. Then let go of the sleep button but not the home button and hold it until iTunes pops up on your computer. Then it should say something about needing to restore the ipod. Press restore and wait. Voila! Restored ipod.

BTW----> Restoring your ipod will delete any information currently stored on your ipod (music, contacts, calender dates, notes,ect...)
