You can always and should get another adjuster's estimate. Also, don't always take it for granted that the insurance company is referring you to a reputable shop. Remember that the shop they're referring you to works for them and not you. I have had success in getting an estimate from an independent shop, even it's not one that you go to, who are experts on your type of car, such as a dealership. Lots of dealerships have them, but they may not advertise it, so be sure to ask your service advisor. Also, if the adjuster gives you an estimate for more than one of the shops you've gone to, you can take your car to the less expensive shop and have the shop pay you the difference in cash. Make sure to check out shops thoroughly. There are thousands of fly by night places that will rip you off as soon as they figure out where your knowledge ends. The best places to check are the Better Business Bureau (for registration and complaints), your Secretary of State or Corporation Commission (for corporate status, length of time in business, etc.), and even the county recorder's office to see who technically owns the property the shop uses as their business address.
