How sea stars repair or replace or damage body parts?

Sea stars, or starfish, have remarkable regenerative abilities that allow them to repair or replace damaged body parts. If a sea star loses an arm, it can regenerate a new one through a process involving cell division and differentiation. This regeneration occurs in specialized tissues called mesodermal cells, which can develop into various cell types needed for the new arm. In some cases, a single arm can even grow into a new sea star if it contains part of the central disk.
