Female Zebra's mature earlier than Males and may even have their first foal when they are 3 years old. Males dont get an opportunity to breed until they are around 6 years old. Zebra's live as a group which is usually headed by a Zebra Stallion. The Stallion gets to mate with all the females in his harem that are in heat. Younger more stronger males can dethrone a lead stallion and take over his group. Mares may give birth to one foal every year or so. Foals live their mothers for around a year and then leave to fend off on their own.
