In major cities a number of walk-in clinics exist which accept credit-cards as payment for services rendered. Hospitals also have the facility to accept credit cards, but generally not within the A&E (accident and emergency) departments. This would need to be arranged with the finance office in advance.

Britain's GP's (doctors) do not maintain POS (point-of-sale) equipment to accept credit-cards for services as the bulk of them are partnered with Britain's National Health System. There are private physicians in major cities, but they would need to be contacted individually regarding the services required.

Visitors may be surprised to find how low the fee would be for a visitor to visit a GP for a single-visit, general ailment. Even should someone fall ill whilst a guest in a hotel, who requires the doctor to come to the hotel, the fee would be amazingly modest (under £40-50).

Regardless, visitors to the United Kingdom who are not passport holders of the UK passport or any of the Commonwealth Countries should either carry an EHIC Card (formerly an E-111) and have private accident insurance.

Just as a note: an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) has no provision for repatriation in the event of an emergency.
