An old Japanese legend says he who makes 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish does anyone know any more about the actual legend?

I thought it was this:

If one who is sick makes 1000 paper cranes, the person will get healed by the gods. I don't know. I read it in a book called "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" or something like that.
