Why can't American tractors pull as many trailers as an Australian road train?

first reason is,that the law doent allow it. then the Australian tractors have more gears to enable the heavier loads. the trucks are basically the same apart from the gear boxes. the Australian roadtrains do not enter big cities and are used mostly in remote areas
