Permethrin is a pesticide which is used to control woodworm.
Specifically, the pesticide can be considered an acaricide and an insecticide since it respectively controls such arachnids as mites and ticks on the one hand and insects on the other. It eliminates pests by the neuron membrane-affecting functions of its synthetic chemicals (pyrethroids). It generally will not be harmful to birds and mammals even though it is toxic to cats and fish.
