Francisco Coronado did not establish a permanent settlement, but he is known for his expedition in the 1540s that explored large parts of what is now the southwestern United States. During his journey, he encountered various Native American groups and established temporary camps. One notable location associated with his expedition is the Zuni village of Hawikuh, which he attempted to conquer, believing it to be one of the legendary Seven Cities of Gold.
