How to get rid of echo in house that has mostly hardwood floors and large great room?

IT would be very difficult, large drapes would help some, also maybe some area rugs, Oriental rugs, things like that, anything that will absorb sound. you may be able to find some acoustic absorbers, but they probably interfere with your décor.
