Water Dragons(WD) dig for a few reasons. Females of about 2 years of age may be sexually mature, and will dig to lay their eggs when gravid. NOTE Females will become gravid, even if there isn't a male! The eggs will be infertile. A nesting box may be needed to help her lay her eggs, or she could become egg bound.

Younger WD may also dig in an attempt to get out of their enclosure. How big is your tank? WD need a 50+ gal tank with lots of climbing space. Also, how much time are you interacting with your WD? If your WD wants out, bring them out for a while. It may help stop the digging.

Also keep in mind, some WD just like to dig more than others. They sometimes dig burrows in the wild, so if your WD seems healthy, and is eating well, don't worry much about his or her digging!
