Dolph Briscoe (born April 23, 1923 in Ulvalde, Texas; died June 27, 2010 in Uvalde, Texas) succeeded Preston Smith as the forty-first Governor of Texas, serving between January 16, 1973 and January 16, 1979, including the whole of 1978.
