Why the south grew but it did not develop?

The South experienced growth primarily due to its agricultural economy, particularly cotton production, which thrived thanks to slave labor and favorable climatic conditions. However, this growth did not translate into broader development due to a lack of industrialization, infrastructure investment, and education. The region's reliance on a single cash crop created economic vulnerability and hindered diversification. Socially and politically, the entrenched system of slavery and resistance to change further stifled progress and modernization.
