data protection, including recording, reporting, storage, security and sharing information.

In my setting we keep a variety of records of the children. These include:

  • Attendance records
  • Health records
  • Accident records
  • Child protection records
  • Planning records
  • Observation records

The following individuals are the only ones who have access to these:

Principal

Parents

Team members

Other professionals

These records are filed under lock and key in our office.

Handling information:

The data protection act 1998 helps to ensure that information is handled correctly.

The act also allows everyone to see the information that is held about them to correct or update and to know how it is being used. Meaning parents can ask to see them at any time. Any information that is being passed must be passed in the correct manner, in the school, during school hours, by either the manager or principal and this must be done privately, out of earshot and sight of people who do not need to know.
