Cost to replace a water pump on 1999 vw beetle?

I checked several places they suggest a dealer due to the water pump runs off the timing belt which should be replaced at the same time. They called it regular maintenance, ha. But after checking several places it is approx. 620.00. If the timing belt goes out it will pretty much cost you thousands for a engine.
