Can you take a pontoon boat in the ocean?

For the most part, the answer is no, as most would not handle the rough water. However, some more high pontoon boats could probably handle occasional shallow water ocean usage.

I would think some of the larger tri hulled models such as the ones at the link provided below could handle it.
