Point of view about the story of the smith who could not get into hell by?

The plot of the story The Smith Who Could Not Get Into Hell by Peter Asbjornsen is that a blacksmith had made a deal with the Devil and was then granted 3 wishes by the Lord. He used his wishes to get out of his deal with the Devil. The blacksmith was then not allowed into either Heaven or Hell because the Devil was afraid of him and the Lord was upset at the wishes the blacksmith had chosen.
