Why does the dishwasher stay in wash cycle and makes a clicking noise and does not go to rinse cycle?

Why does my 950 series frigidaire dishwasher stay in wash cycle and make a clicking noise and does not go in to rinse cycle?

ANS 2 - The timer is faulty. It's unlikely you can fix the timer, but not too difficult to fit a new one. ( only cost -effective if the dishwasher is a really good and almost new one. )
