Why do you need computer to process data and information?

Information is data that a person can understand. When a computer converts data into information, it provides a context, makes it meaningful, focuses attention, and provides an interpretation. Without that, data is pretty much useless. For example the name 'Jon' is pretty useless to you unless you know something abut who that refers to. That's data. It turns out that my name if 'Jon'. Now you have context for the name 'Jon'. 'Jon' is the person who wrote this answer. Now you have information.
