There are several species which have peeling bark.

  • River birch, Betula nigra, is one of the best examples of multi-layered peeling bark.
  • Texas madrone, Arbutus xalapensis, has bright red peeling bark and a grayish inner bark

Some trees have fibrous bark which peels in more of a shedding fashion. Examples of this can be seen in:

  • Eastern Redcedar, Juniperus virginiana
  • Baldcypress, Taxodium distichum
