The largest member of the grouse family is the capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus). Native to the forests of Europe and parts of Asia, males can weigh up to 4 kg (about 8.8 lbs) and have a wingspan of up to 85 cm (33 inches). Known for their impressive courtship displays, capercaillies are primarily ground-dwelling birds that prefer coniferous forests. Their size and distinctive plumage make them a notable species within the grouse family.
