Both the Biblical town and the city in Pennsylvania are spelled Bethlehem. (no A) In Hebrew, "lechem" (ch is that throat-clearing sound and not like "church") is the Word for "bread". Beth means "house". So "Beth Lechem" was the "House of Bread" which is fitting since Christ is the "Bread of Life".

The "ham" ending is in error, but appears a lot because it is the Old English ending for town names because it meant "field" and later "village".
