The metallic blue dragonfly, commonly known as the Calico Pennant, typically inhabits wetland areas, including ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams, often near vegetation where they can perch. Their lifecycle begins with eggs laid in or near water, which hatch into aquatic nymphs that live in the water for several months to a few years, depending on the species. After undergoing several molts, the nymphs emerge as adults, a process known as metamorphosis, and spend the remainder of their lives flying and mating, usually lasting a few weeks to a few months. These dragonflies are often found in sunny areas where they can hunt for insects.
