How do you use surf in Pokemon FireRed?

After getting the HM03 teach it to a Pokemon now normally you can't use it unless you get the fifth badge so go to fuchsia city and defeat the gym leader now you can use surf go to any body of water and press A and it will ask if you want to surf say yes and now your Surfing.
