Are labs good retrivers

Labs are some of the smartest, if not THE smartest dogs in the world. They are quick to teach and can be taught to retrieve in just a year. My neighbor has a 2 year old black lab that will retrieve ducks, geese, etc. He will also throw empty beverage cans away! They are Excellant retrievers!
