Should you disconnect the positive or negative?

This question would benefit from a bit of context, but nonetheless, chances are, the correct procedure is to first turn off the circuit breaker, and then it won't matter which wire you disconnect first since there will be no current in it. Also note, if you do not know what you are doing, don't try doing electrical work, you may electrocute yourself and get killed.
