Alexander Crummell was a prominent African American scholar, minister, and civil rights advocate in the 19th century. He is best known for his efforts to promote education and social justice for African Americans, as well as for founding the American Negro Academy in 1897, which aimed to uplift and support African American intellectuals. Crummell also played a significant role in the Pan-African movement and was an early advocate for the return of Africans to their ancestral homeland.
