Madison (Democratic- Republican)- won in Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Virgina, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia. In New York he won 13 votes out of 19, in North Carolina he won 11 out of 14, and in Maryland he won 9 out of 11.

Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (Federalist)- won in Massachusetts, New Hampshire Connecticut, and Delaware. In Maryland he got 2 out of 11 votes, and in North Carolina he got 3 out of 14 votes.

George Clinton (independent)- got 6 out of 19 votes in the state of New York
