What is the meaning of go to assist?

"Go to assist" means to offer your help to someone who is in need. For example, if there was someone at Home Depot who had too much on their flat bed trolley and stuff was sliding off, the manager might ask his/her employees to "go to assist" the customer which would involve stabilizing the merchandise first and then possibly providing another trolley to offload some of the items.
