Why do newspaper print a combination of four dots Blue Pink Yellow and Black at the bottom of each page?

This is done so that the print checkers in the press room are able to check alignment, color quality, etc. of the paper. When a press run starts, typically a fair amount of papers, at first, will have alignment issues - particularly with color photographs, ads, etc.
