When did shillings turn into pounds?

Shillings were historically a form of currency in the UK, but the switch to a decimal system occurred on February 15, 1971, known as Decimal Day. On that date, the pound was redefined to consist of 100 new pence, replacing the old system where a pound was divided into 20 shillings, with each shilling further divided into 12 pence.
