Five different versions between 185 hp and 283 hp were available, depending on whether a single carb, twin carbs, or fuel injection was used.
In its mildest tune it produced 185 bhp at 4600 rpm; a four-barrel card brought this up to 220 bhp; two fours resulted in either 245 or 270; and Chevy's new "Ramjet" fuel injection system boosted output to 250 or 283 bhp.
In 1965 there was only 1 version of the 283 and it only came with a 2 bbl carb, it had 185 hp and 285 torque. The famous 327 had arrived on the scene and was slowly pushing out the 283
