How do you do wheel alignment on BMW?

Just spoke to a local tyre company who stated that this has to be done by the dealer, as the car has to be weighted down when carrying out any adjustments. You're probably like me.............none the wiser. They did say it's about £100+VAT...EEEEEEK!
