Why does the AC stay on in a 2001 Prizm Whenever the fan is running the AC is on. It only shuts off when the fan is. Also the light goes on and off as the AC button is pressed but the AC stays on.?

If you have the selector knob on defrost it will also run the air conditioner compressor.
