How much money on average should be charged toward labor for service on your car?

$65-$75 an hour at a licensed mechanic shop. Which is basically saying, "I'm an iddiot, I like to waste money paying people that really have no clue what to do if its not in the mechanic book!"

Or a set price that is usually half the cost to 1/3 the price a mechanic charges by using a street mechanic. That's someone who took apart cars in their driveway to try and put them back together. The good ones are usually hard to find and they know about negotiating prices. So don't pay too much. Replacing a head gasket is around $150-$200 for an older car and around $300 for a 2000 and newer car. Ask a certified mechanic how much it'll cost for them to do it. Then divide that price by three and you have the fair price to pay to a street mechanic!
