Why do people love to read about scandals?

The desire to read about scandals is part of the voyeuristic nature of people. An expression of it anyway. It is connected also to a need for people to find equalibrium. for instance, say someone has troubles in his life. If that person reads about some ongoing scandal, where those involved can be perceived to be more miserable than he, then he can derive a sense of better feeling, if not well-being from the experience. This is sort of a "There-but-for-the-grace-of-God" moment.
