Your car is a 1994 olds cutlass ciera automatic The car wont shift to second gear and you force the car and the check engine comes on and then the car runs fine?

This just happened to my '94 Ciera. A wire to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) had been cut. Repair of the wire corrected the problem. The sensor is located on the transmission extension on the passenger side. Can be seen from underhood but better serviced by removing the passenger side tire and working through the wheel well opening. If your wiring is good, suspect the sensor. $40 part.
