Lasers are created by stimulating atoms or molecules to emit light through a process called stimulated emission of radiation. In a laser, energy is supplied to a gain medium, which can be a gas, liquid, or solid, causing it to become excited. When these excited atoms return to their ground state, they release photons that are coherent and of a specific wavelength. These photons are amplified and emitted as a focused beam of light through mirrors in the laser cavity.
