To write a successful history essay it's best to do the following:

  • Start with a strong introduction. This will grad the reader's attention and will let them know what you are telling them. You could add basic facts but nothing too complicated as this is only the introduction.
  • Then you should have three supporting paragraphs, an easy way to remember how to write paragraphs in history is a 'PEE Burger', the structure is shown below.

P: This stands for 'point' which means the first point you are writing about. E.g. 'One reason why World War One started was because of the assassination of the Duke..'

E: This stands for 'example'. If you're using sources/source sheets then you can use quotations for this part.

E: Explanations. This is the part of the paragraph where you explain why your point you gave affected the situation. E.g. 'I think this was a valid reason for why the war started because..'

If you have another example you could add this in after your first explanation and give another explanation underneath your second example.

You could also: You could also add in an extra part at the end explaining how both your examples are linked and how they could have both affected each other. You could also say the reliability of the source and whether it can be trusted dependant on who wrote the source/who is speaking.
