What did Aristotle name as three positive forms of government?

1. One man rule aiming at the common good - Kingship.

2. Rule by more than man but only a few - Aristocracy.

3. Rule exercised by the bulk of the citizens for the good of the whole community - Polity.

The corresponding deviations are:

From kingship, tyranny.

From aristocracy, oligarchy.

From polity, democracy.

The meanings of the Greek Words are:

Monarchy = rule by one

Tyranny = despotism of one

Aristocracy = rule by the best

Oligarchy = rule by the few

Polity = constitutional government

Democracy = people power
