Why was John Bunyan arrested?

John Bunyan was arrested in November 1660 for conducting unauthorized religious services in violation of the Clarendon Code, which sought to suppress nonconformist religious practices following the Restoration of the English monarchy. He was imprisoned for 12 years for preaching without a license from the Church of England.
