Why are the Magpie birds regarded as intelligent birds?

Magpies are considered intelligent for many reasons. One the most commonly cited of these reasons is their ability to recognize themselves in mirrors; Magpies are the only non-mammal that has been observed to do this. Other reasons include their tendency to use tools, as well as their rather advanced problem solving skills. Magpies have been observed cutting food into appropriate sized pieces depending on the size of their young.
