You shouldn't let your iron levels decrease more than your normal level of iron -- in other Words, consume the same amount of iron as you did when you weren't pregnant, or more. Iron is needed because your body is producing a lot of extra blood to bring oxygen and nutrients to the placenta, which is what feeds the baby. So make an effort to consume more iron -- it will be better for the baby!!
