Could some one help me I need help dying hair for the first time?

first of all im a dude i got hair that goes down to my chin i tried

getting the absolute lightest shade of blonde at the store and

afterwards it came out like a reddish light brown, almost like a

mix of the color of my hair and the color of the dye... is that

supposed to happen? How do i get it actually blonde? do i just keep

buying more dye and dying it over and over untill it comes out as

light blonde as i want it?
