Why was more scary stories to tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz banned?

Alvin Schwartz wrote scary stories because he felt that writing scary stories would build tension and suspense, so the reader would continue to read his books, and it was creepy looking on the front so that kids who hadn't read it yet would be drawn in by the spooky cover.
