There are only four (4) known species within the family of Sirenia left in the world today. They are:
-West Indian Manatee: Which populates the Carribbean Coastlines, and Florida.
-West African Manatee: Found on the western coast of the continent of Africa.
-Amazonian Manatee: A strictly river-going species native to the Amazon River Basin.
-Dugong: Found in the Indo-Pacific region. There was formerly a species called the Stellar's Sea Cow which was the only cold-water species found in the Bearing Sea, and the coast of Alaska. It was hunted to extinction within 30 years of its discovery.
